Zoe Crichton
Through photography and mixed media, Zoe explores the interplay of movement and stillness, drawing attention to fleeting moments within familiar places. Her work is informed by her local environment and personal experiences, exploring memory, place and the formative spaces of her son’s childhood. Merging realism and abstraction, she works with light, texture and movement to capture the quiet beauty of everyday life. The works included in Emerge reflect on the time shared through walks with her family and their dog Billie, noticing the changing light, landscape and small moments that become part of a shared sense of place.

FREYA ANTHONY
Freya Anthony is a year 12 student at Willunga Waldorf School who has spent the year learning how to silversmith and create handmade jewellery. She uses sterling silver and stones, turquoise, fossilised corals, shells and pearls. Her jewellery is inspired by the beach and nature and embraces imperfaction in her rustic handmade style.

Lucy is an emerging ceramic artist creating hand-built forms experimenting wiht carving and glazes. She is inspired by shapes, movement and colour she finds in nature.

I am drawn to bright colours and artwork that pops; detailed pieces and imagery that tells a story. Working primarily in acrylics I build up soft layers to bring small snapshots to vibrant life. The small canvas is an invitation to pause and delight in the tiniest of moments. They are an expression of finding joy in the little things.

MAIKO SENTINA
These portraits came from an earlier period in my practice, when I was beginning to find my way into watercolour and discovering portraiture as a way of paying attention. Across these works, you can see me moving between observation and experimentation: fromcarefully rendered faces to increasingly loose passages of colour and water, unfinished edges and areas where the paint is allowed to speak for itself. I was asking and trying: what does watercolour do when you stop trying to completely control it?
Through these works, I see the beginnings of questions that continue to shape my practice now: how we encounter another person, what a portrait can hold beyond likeness and how colour and material can communicate something that representation alone cannot. These works mark the point at which portraiture and watercolour began to become my language - and central to my creative practice.

This work is one of five layers that together form the final piece of my Visual Arts degree. The five-layer structure was conceived as a visual record of my creative process, offering the audience insight into my development, similar to the manner of an art journal. Collectively, the layers reflect the techniques, skills, processes and influences that shaped my practice throughout the process of making.
Layer 3 explores total freedom, artistic spontaneity and intuition. It employs extensive layering of materials and was applied predominantly with my non-dominant (left) hand and blind painting application. This artwork is a self-portrait, created without prior planning, and its expressive quality reflects the sense of freedom I felt during its making

This wall hanging represents my grandmothers Kullilli Country located in the south-west of Queensland around the township of Thargomindah where Bulloo River runs through. The weaving represents the rich colours of the earth and the muddy waters of the river which supports life in a harsh, semi-arid country. The feathers are from the emu, which was Nanna’s totem.
My Nanna is remembered for her strength, tenacity, and resilience to live her life own her own terms. She was a strong woman who was full of life, and known for her warmth and generosity. When l see emus travelling across a harsh landscape, I think of my grandmother’s journey. This is in honour of her memory.
Materials: Philodendron leaf sheaths, raffia hand-dyed with walnut husks and shells, ethically sourced emu feathers from plumage moult from reputable permit holder.

The pieces represent a part of Simon’s current project, ‘Raptors over Robe’ which aims to record some of the behaviours of the birds of prey he enjoys watching from the area around his home.
