bernadette woodward

My work is always based on what I find around me. It is important to notice the beautiful and interesting around us. It’s often very ordinary but still wonderful.

These works are all local scenes that celebrate this lovely part of the world.

CATHERINE HEWITT

I have always had an attraction to our landscape.

From my walks in the Adelaide Hills and my outback, regional and coastal travels I gather treasures and images. I interpret in the design and making of these paper works.

Nothing is wasted in the development of these mixed media constructs of handmade recycled paper, metals and various organic inclusions – a transformative process mimicking the natural.

My work, like the landscape, is constantly evolving.

Grandmother

This wall hanging is about my Nanna, her story and her Kullilli Country in the south-west of Queensland in a place called Thargomindah, along the banks of the Bulloo River. The weaving represents the rich colours of the earth and the muddy waters of the river which supports life in a harsh, semi-arid country. The feathers are from the emu, which was Nanna’s totem.

My Nanna is remembered for her strength, tenacity, and resilience to live her life own her own terms. She was full of life, could be tough as nails but was also known for her warmth and generosity. When l see emus travelling across a harsh landscape, I think of my grandmother’s journey. This is in honour of her memory.

Materials: Philodendron leaf sheaths, raffia hand-dyed with walnut husks and shells, ethically sourced emu feathers from plumage moult from reputable permit holder, waxed braided cord.

Joyful Light Collection

These pieces were created to spread joy from joy.

For many years, people have celebrated the mandala as a tool for healing, meditation and insight. My mandalas are created as Art Nouveau-inspired stained glass windows to the soul, and can be used to calm, connect or to simply add aesthetic beauty to your space.

Before painting any of my original artworks, I light a candle and set a loving intention for the artwork. I then use amethyst or rose quartz infused water to wet my brush, and begin intuitively painting with crushed crystals and minerals.

When you receive an original artwork by me, you are holding a completely unique piece, infused with love and care.

We are more of who we are because of the connections we have made.

My artworks explore the connections between people and waterways, gum trees and native birds through a visual narrative describing memory, emotion and awe.

Mixed media artworks begin with walks along local creek lines, forest areas and grassy woodlands, collecting sketches and organic materials to turn into botanic dyes made on the stove at home. I create experimentally exploring how botanic dyes interplay with papers creating textures that mirror water, bark and atmosphere.

Embellished with various materials that carry meaning and purpose, my artworks are a study of the interplay between the natural and the made: How we affect and are affected by the natural environment.

STORY STREET CERAMICS

I am an emerging ceramic artist originally from Wales. Working mainly with stoneware and underglaze, my pieces reflect my love of vintage graphic design and the natural world. An affinity with folklore from Europe and Australia informs my work and many of the images I produce are inspired by personal experiences or by stories shared with me.

TRACEY WEGENER

Tracey, the creator of My Little Print Studio, is a botanical artist based in Adelaide, on Kaurna land. Through the vintage process of cyanotype, her practice explores foraging the most perfect wild flora to make magicial one of a kind, original sun prints. A slow and intentional processs that embraces simplicity, savors the present and finds peace admist the chaos of our very busy lives.

Every art work reveals a world of intricate detail, amongst striking shades of indigo and deep shadows. Botanical art brings forth feelings of peace and calm in your home. These pieces evoke wonder, connection and harmony with natures rhythms as well as new beginnings and growth.

chris small

Chris Small work attempts to represent the complexity of seemingly simple small human interactions with spaces in nature. Each tiny action creates imperceptible geological shifts, such as simple actions like picking up and observing shells and rocks on beach walks.

Her layering painting practice reflects how the shadow of our human presence, is continuously etched into landscapes over time, until our human bodies ultimately return to becoming fragments in a complex and beautiful eco-system.

MARY MARGETTES

Mary is a self taught artist, painting in various mediums. Her work is influenced by the beauty and the amazing colours found in the Flinders Ranges and at Arkaroola , a magical place where magical things happen.

Little Black Dog

Walking my little black dog daily around the beautiful park and wetlands near my house is a wonderful way to keep the other black dog at bay. It mostly works.

I call these black and white works my 'doodles'. Most of my printmaking and illustration work is meticulously planned and tightly controlled. These large scale drawings are a breather from all that.

Harvest

This illustration was originally created for a poster to promote the Premier's Reading Challenge. I love the blissful feeling of a long sunny day lying on the grass in dappled shade totally immersed in the world of a book.

South Australian Icons

These prints were created by carving the design, in mirror image, into a lino block. It was printed by hand on Stonehenge 100% cotton paper, and coloured using watercolour paints and inks. Therefore, although there are multiples available of the same image, each print is a unique and original artwork.

Hans

International superstar, sex symbol, accordionist and Berlin  boy-wonder.

As well as being known and loved by many (many!) South Australians, he has thrilled audiences and won hearts all around the country and the globe, including on America’s Got Talent, where he was proclaimed one of the ten best entertainers in the world. Cheeky, irreverent, hugely talented and totally fabulous.

Paul

Could he be Adelaide’s Poet Laureate? Paul has provided the soundtrack to much of my life. I’ve seen him play more times than I can count. One night that stands out was at the Tivoli in the mid-80s (well, where did you go on a Saturday night?), enveloped in cigarette smoke, feet sticking to the carpet, crushed shoulder to shoulder, ears ringing as the home-town crowd roared their approval of Adelaide sharing, or possibly totally missing, the irony. The song titles in the print were chosen by asking friends their fave PK songs.

sonja maclean

With a passionate love for colour, working in all paint media, Ive painted since I could hold a brush. Born in Perth, growing up in SA and years spent in NT have inspired a love of the Australian Bush, its stories, colour and ‘spirit’. I predominantly weave images of native flora and fauna, people and places.  Often nostalgic,  like a half forgotten dream, my work explores my own connection to country, memories and the point where our experiences become our stories, describing who we are, where we are from, and how we belong.

ELIZABETH ABBOTT

jana kempson and kate crabb

Jana and Kate are two sisters from the Fleurieu Peninsula, one a horticulturist and the other a ceramicist.

Their pot plants have been hand formed, glazed by hand and propagated all locally on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

They mindfully match their plants and pots to complement one another bringing out the natural patterns of nature.

Each mosaic tile has been individually hand cut and glazed to bring to life a colourful, fun statement piece.

mandy walker

Mandy’s use of terracotta clay to make bowls and beakers references ancient pottery making techniques, before Christianity. Having lived in England for many years where a White Christmas was always wished for, Mandy has applied a white Majolica glaze to evoke a Christmas/ winter solstice vibe.

fiona wannenmacher

I began my artistic career as a painter, but have also worked in a variety of mediums such as ceramics, printmaking and textiles. My love is of textile design and that is the area I currently work in. Having lived all over the world, eg Japan, Hungary, Luxembourg, USA, for the past 20+ years, I have been exposed to and influenced by many things which are reflected in what I make. I collect antique quilts and also make original quilts (both practical and art quilts), as well as restoring antique quilt tops for sale.

I describe the process that I use in my work as “painting with fabric”and embellish and free quilt with a 1956 Singer Sewing Machine. I also create very small textile pieces which can be framed, or used as a motif on a bag, cushion or something else. I like to upcycle fabric from clothes or use vintage or antique fabric and buttons where possible and have also designed my own fabric.

I believe in “art for art’s sake”, but a lot of what I make is practical, eg bags and cushions. I think every day items should be beautiful.
