FLOW

The Nature Festival 2025

We are so exited to share with you this awesome group of artists sharing their Flow. When in creative mode us artists get into Flow state where we lose sense of time and are in the middle of the process. The magical space where we don't know exactly what will come of it.

This exhibition is the artists’ individual responses to the theme of this years Nature Festival ‘Flow’

From the powerful surging of tides to the subtle shifts of seasons, from creative flow to political waves, from the steady winding of rivers to the swaying of bodies in dance, we are exploring what it means to move in relationship with the world around and within us. Whether the artist has focused on ephemeral flows in nature, flows of generations, or a flowing glass of wine, we welcome and embrace the diverse interpretations.

There is over 350 events for the Nature Festival in South Australia. This is a systems change movement shaped like a festival. Reminding us all to immerse and connect with nature and care for our beautiful planet.

BERNADETTE WOODWARD

Trusting in nature I draw my inspiration from the world around me. Humans and the natural world are so deeply interwoven – and we have lost the ability to see and value it. A resonance of drawings in the sand, the steady change with each wave. The drawings that appear in stillness. Loving to work with metal, unpredictable patinations, the softness as well as the solidity - and at the same time paper with its lightness, warmth and connectedness. The materials inspire me to create, to enter a dialogue. From a place always known and almost forgotten.

GINA BARKER

My artistic journey began way back in the early 1990’s when Folk Art was very popular. I’d always been artistic and much to my parents’ disgust I was always good at drawing, but not so good at maths! Over the years I have developed a love for water colour painting. I find that I am most at home when watching my art develop as the paint and water work their magic. Even now, I’m mesmerized by the way the paint and water ‘dance’ across the paper.

For the ‘Flow’ Exhibition I am showing Atmospheric Landscapes, as they all have movement and the eye is drawn to the flow and detail of the pieces.

SONJA MACLEAN

With a passionate love for colour, working in all paint media, Ive painted since I could hold a brush. Born in Perth, growing up in SA and years spent in NT have inspired a love of the Australian Bush, its stories, colour and ‘spirit’. I predominantly weave images of native flora and fauna, people and places.  Often nostalgic,  like a half forgotten dream, my work explores my own connection to country, memories and the point where our experiences become our stories, describing who we are, where we are from, and how we belong.

Jenah Piwanski & MAZ MIS

The SILT + CLAY collaborative series of Photographic Prints and Ceramics was guided by the coastal rock formations of the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.

It captures a truly immersive experience that extends beyond the land and out to sea. The coastline quietly calls for connection - a gentle reminder that there is strength in stillness. Our body of work explores and celebrates the magic of this otherworldly landscape.

REBECCA ZANKER

As an avid birder with an interest in environmental science, creating works of birds is never just about the bird, a bird is always more than just its feathers. I look for the relationships between the bird and its habitat, behaviour, or other birds. In nature, nothing exists in isolation from the world around it, and part of the joy I get from observing wildlife is seeing how an animal relates to its environment, how it fits within the space and interacts with it. All of those interactions are part of the flow in nature, and I enjoy exploring those interactions and the means of interpreting them.

LAURA GENT

Laura Gent's art reflects on nature’s cycles—growth, decay, and renewal. She draws on macro and micro elements observed in the environment, creating forms that simultaneously resemble coastal landforms, decaying leaves, and shifting skies. Her work invites viewers to experience the multisensory essence of walking along the coast or beneath eucalyptus trees, offering a poetic meditation on transience, memory, and connection to the natural world.

CRYSTAL FALZON

I am an artist based in Willunga, and my work is deeply inspired by travel, nature, and diverse cultures. Through my art, I aim to reflect the natural flow of life and the interconnectedness that unites us all. I love to use expressive colours and textures, layering pastels and mixed media until I feel harmony has arrived.

My work invites reflection on the shared experiences that connect us, weaving a tapestry of unity and appreciation for the beauty in our differences. We are all connected.

For me, childhood was all about climbing trees, chasing waves and getting grubby whilst always looking for that next adventure. I have many fond memories of exploring the vineyard I grew up on and spending summers with my extended family on the shores of Ceduna, Port Augusta and Moana beaches.

These paintings capture the essence of those childhood moments and the way kids slip so easily into the rhythm of nature. They serve as a reminder to us to play, to explore and to be a little wild.

My hope is that when you look at these pieces, you feel that same easy rhythm – that sense of being carried along by the day, lost in the fun, just going with the flow.

The language of the soul of the world” a phrase from Paulo Coelho’s writing which
has stayed with me for thirty years or so. I see this language in nature in the lands and waters and animals. It flows through everything. The wind and its impacts have always fascinated me. I started woodcarving while living on the Coorong on Ngarrindjeri Country where this Flow was called your Miwi which articulates your connection to the natural and spiritual world. My sculptures aim to be a reflection of the simple yet elegant lines that flow through nature and flow through us.
