SUE GERSCHWITZ

Following a Realism style, Sue’s large format blooms, draw you into the story of each flower. Here today and faded tomorrow, they command our attention, reminding us to live in each moment. Showing us more than a mere glance into the fleeting beauty of flowers, Sue endeavours to help us delight in the bounty that nature has given.

Charming us with their scent, given with love and celebrated the world over.

Sue implores you to “Stop and smell the Roses”

IRINA NAZAROVA

Having collected many flowers and lived in Estonia for the most of my life; I am fascinated to walk through the Australian bush, manicured gardens and even unkempt abandoned plots of land, to discover new plants and flowers and get some inspiration for my paintings.

The depictions of my works range from the botanical, to the imaginary, with hieroglyphic and iconic motifs. I hope my art will inspire others to stop for a moment and take a careful look at the flowers, appreciating the rich variety and complexity of indigenous flora.

SADIE ROBERTS

I am often drawn to the natural world for inspiration, firstly in identifying a subject matter followed by the journey taken to seek completion using oils. These pieces were created to give the viewer access to nature. They may be farmed or cultivated, however, here they are honoured for their exquisite form and presence. There is an equality to the relationship, the subjects are inviting you you hold their gaze.

MARIANNE WALLER

After a frankly lavish 20 years working overseas, I moved back to Adelaide with husbo to  care for mum. We live in her backyard shed, optimistically called “The Studio”. It used to be  where dad (the artist, Tim Waller) painted. To avoid spontaneous combustion during the  pandemic, and without a clue (but adoring the process) I also started to paint. It’s now my joy, along with weightlifting, animals, and roadtrips.

SARAH FLEW

Art is my escape, literally and figuratively! This escape is mindfulness, it’s down time, its creativity, brings the balance to life and is my meditation. ‘Escape Art’ is mostly mandalas, with some dabbles in watercolours.

My work represents seasonality, nature, the cycles in our lives, the reminder that all endings are new beginnings. They are filled with symbolism, with spiritual meaning, and each one tells a very different story.

They’re detailed and completed in ink on beautiful cold pressed watercolour paper, mostly monochromatic, all done completely by hand, without digital input.

ROSANA COHEN

For Rosana, it is a privilege to have found clay as a medium, to further discover

the strong sense of connection she feels to the natural environment. Rosana

lives at Hallett Cove, where inspiration comes while overlooking a steep gully

down to a rocky beach, and the ocean.

When making with clay, Rosana’s intention is to infuse all that inspires and

connects her to who she is in nature, and to convey that when making a piece,

giving it life and an energy all of its own, in the hope to communicate something

special and unique to others.

Rosana’s inspiration for the wall hangings “Lei” comes from her time living in New Zealand where there is is a strong Polynesian presence. Leis symbolise love, respect and appreciation.

PAULA JOSLING

I work in the ancient art of Encaustics for its delicacy and strength,

its ability to be transformed and reworked. The perfect medium for

exploring a love of texture, delicate transparent layering, embedding

papers, images and found objects in the wax.

For me it’s a melting pot of ideas and techniques.

EXPRESSIONS OF KANGAROO ISLAND

A collaboration of artworks from Kangaroo Island artist Jennifer Macauley, Lisa Coldebella and Vieux Kyle-Little telling a story about their love to the islands natural wonders and the friendship between them.

LISA COLDEBELLA

My art reflects the environment where I live, along the rugged cliffs of Kangaroo Island. Everything I create is inspired by my love and connection to this unique location. I encourage a greater appreciation, awareness and consciousness of the fragile environs in which we all live.

VIEUX KYLE-LITTLE

I am a print maker & artist working from my studio on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. The island with its wild beauty and native animals has become the inspiration for my artwork - and my home.

JENNIFER MACAULEY

As a practising artist over many years, now living on beautiful Kangaroo Island, I feel an emotional connection to the natural surroundings. My paintings reflect that reaction. I strive to capture the colours, amazing light, shadows and reflections on land and sea in an impressionistic and contemporary style.

SHARON DEDRICK

Whilst staying at Rawnsley Park Station last November 2021

I embraced this beautiful country....

I sat alone in a dry creek bed...absorbing the colours of the stones & rocks... the textures of the old grandmother trees....bark of many natural colours ....the wildflowers abundant sprouting up in and around the creek bed and on the red earth .... the sounds...the aromas from above and below.....wildlife all around me.... emus looking on.....wild birds of prey gracing the skies...

I felt so connected to mother earth... father sky... to country...!

mountainous hills ...the beauty from below looking up was incredible.... surrounding me.... embracing me like a huge hug....alive with such powerful spiritual ancient energy!

my creativeness was flowing....i was being guided by nature ..... allowing me to be a part of this amazing energy by coming through me into my creations...

my art...

how amazingly grateful and thankful I felt to be part of the whole collective....

nature....red earth....the elements!.

earth wood water air

I give thanks and respect to the traditional custodians of this beautiful country, the Adnyamathanha people.

My Poem

take me to the wild red earth

sit me in the dry creek bed

let the cool breeze blow through me

while the hot sun warms my skin

let me feel your presence

whisper to me your secrets

show me the textures of your ancient bark

oh ancient grandmother tree

shine your coloured stones in my eyes

let the emus stare in my face

as they

silently tiptoe away

i sit in wonder only of your beauty

your history

your spiritual lineage

your sacredness

your indigenous heritage

CARLY MITOLO

Self-love noun

love of self: such as

a. an appreciation of one's own worth or virtue

b. proper regard for and attention to one's own happiness or well-being

c. inflated love of or pride in oneself

Self-love as self-worth takes time and awareness of self to cultivate. A destination or a journey? It is perhaps a lifelong pursuit that underpins all beliefs and interactions with the world. They say you cannot love another without first loving yourself. Not in the egocentric way, but in recognising your value and matching that with the same or greater value in another. Some are shown great love and have self-love ingrained in them, some must wash away the dust and build it from the root up. With soft whispers and patient words.
