WORKSHOP| The Tired Creative: The Art of Letting Go

  • Fleurieu Arthouse 202 Main Road McLaren Vale Australia (map)

Have you stopped making things because you’re too busy, too tired, or afraid it won’t be good enough?

This relaxed Sunday art workshop on the Fleurieu Peninsula is a gentle way back into creating, whether you’re a beginner, a perfectionist, or a creative who feels blocked.

Led by Charlotte of The Tired Creative, an Adelaide-based creative and live wedding painter, the day is held at Fleurieu Arthouse in the grounds of Hardys Tintara in McLaren Vale. With flower arrangements as our inspiration, we’ll gather around one long table and sketch the flowers in pencil, then bring them to life with watercolour and layers of chalk pastel. As everyone draws and paints, the flowers merge into one big, shared garden, a collective artwork made by the whole table.

This isn’t a class and nobody is assessed. The focus is the process, not the product: why and how you create, rather than what you create. There’s no result to achieve and no pressure to be good, only time to slow down, notice, and enjoy making something alongside other people.

At the end of the day, we’ll tear the artwork up together. It’s a powerful moment of letting go of judgement, perfectionism and the need to hold on to a finished piece. Each person goes home with a colour card on which they’ve written how the day felt, a lasting reminder that the ability to create is within them, and the inspiration to create again.

The ticket includes all art materials, a gourmet individual lunch box, and tea and light snacks throughout the day. Parking is free on site, and with only 12 places the group stays calm and unhurried. It’s a lovely addition to a day in the McLaren Vale wine region, and a good gift for a friend who could use a slow Sunday.
