A showcase of landscape inspired painting, drawing and textile art. This unique exhibition brings to light the combined works of many of the artists and students who, since 2013, have pilgrimaged to the spectacular mountain desert in the Northern Flinders that is Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. Inspired and challenged by artist mentors Denise Lithgow, Peter Griffen and Paul Macklin and by the near overwhelming spirit and architecture of the Arkaroola landscape these painters and makers offer a diverse view into country and our engagement with it.
Arkaroola has much to offer the artist; iron bound, rust red mountains, relics of ancient sea and riverbeds, twisted, folded and thrust heavenward, sun scorched gorges violently torn through the land by the rare and welcomed rain, fat trunked river gums, hardy survivors and the elusive yellow footed rock wallabies seeking out a scant existence in dry times, revelling their freedom in the wet.
