WORKSHOP || Finding Beauty in the Mess: a Chris Small Art abstract painting workshop

WORKSHOP || Finding Beauty in the Mess: a Chris Small Art abstract painting workshop

Join Chris Small for 2 Saturdays in January .

Chris Small will step you through a playful experiment of creating a mess of shapes and colour on canvas using different mediums. On the first Saturday we will explore the natural space around the Fleurieu Arthouse to warm up, slow down and notice the surrounds and then return to the workshop space to play with paint! The second Saturday will be blocking out to find the beautiful parts inside the mess - a bit like life is really! We will stay in the moment and focus on the process, and get lost in the colour and feel of the paint. Chris will be there to gently encourage you through any fear and uncertainty until you find your confidence - if you need it!

It's great if you have some painting experience, but if not its OK because this is a very relaxed and organic kind of workshop. The aim is to play, to experiment and to walk away feeling like you have taken a big deep breath and forgotten about any stress for a few hours.

Chris will provide the paints, the canvas, and some aprons, but make sure you wear clothes you don't mind getting messy. Leave those high heels at home! If it's hot bring a hat for outside activity. There will be water provided and you and you can purchase coffee and treats at the Fleurieu Arthouse Coffee Shop.

Chris has set the number of participants at 6, so if people are interested she has set a wait list and if there are enough people interested she will put on more workshops.

Feel free to email chris at chrissmallart@gmail or via my website contact page for any questions. I will send you my contact details once you have sent me an email.

4 WORKSHOPS || GOUACHE PAINTING FOR TRAVELLING with LYNN LOBO

Have you ever dreamed of going away for a quiet holiday with your paints? Its an opportunity to tune into yourself and nature. Perhaps it feels a little intimidating, or you don’t know how to begin? Painting while travelling is something I do regularly, and often. Its my favourite kind of holiday and I always take my gouache paints with me. Gouache is an opaque watercolour paint. Its fast drying and the colours are beautifully intense. Gouache is probably the most simple paint to use and has always been loved by painters to make studies. It is versatile, light weight and perfect for travelling.

In this 4 part workshop, I will share with you many tips for working with gouache paint from how to get started, to ways to preserve your paintings.

  • You will have the opportunity to explore the medium and discover some of its possibilities.

  • You will gain confidence in using gouache and I will share with you the method I use to create images.

  • You will gain an understanding of shapes and colour-tone relationships.

  • In each class we will explore composition.

  • We will focus on landscape painting and be working from photographs.

  • Some drawing experience is beneficial.

This course is intended to encourage you to play while travelling, while on holidays, or if you just want time out for self nurture. The easy set up of gouache enables regular play.

DATES: 4 Saturday afternoons – 18th November – 9th December

TIME: 1pm – 3.30pm

VENUE: Fleurieu Arthouse, 202 Main Road, McLaren Vale, South Australia 5171

COST: $450 per person. All materials included.

Early bird special: $420 if paid before November 4th

Please contact me if you have your own gouache paint for an alternative price.
All classes are held indoors.

EXHIBITION || BODIES AND FICTIONS by Virginia Ryan

In this   unique series of shields of the cycle ‘'I Will Shield You' often completed with multiple reams of string spooled over and woven across the surfaces of circular forms, Ryan's work takes an even more poetic turn. The utilisation of such visual effects can travel beyond their mere representation as art objects; they arise out of a process where in materials are transformed into living organisms of a sort. The threads act as strands binding together personal, political and historical memory at once, forming a kind of surface upon which we might reflect our own experience.
