Artist talk Sunday July 25th 2.30pm
For over a decade I have photographed wine grape varietals throughout the seasons in Fleurieu Peninsular, Adelaide Hills, Barossa and Clare Valleys trying to capture the life of the vines before you get a harvest. These images have inspired realistic paintings, then abstractions based on light and now a new series focused on the beginning of the growing season and the beginning of the vintage.
Bud swell and bud burst are incredible, alien, silk cocoons, vibrant, tiny splashes of colour against deeply textural trunks. Endlessly fascinating.
Many winemakers have been supremely generous of their time, helping me understand the characteristics of each grape varietal and enabling me to build up a profile of aroma, flavour, texture and density which I have then interpreted as abstract colour for this exhibition.
I’m excited that for the first time all three genres/styles will be exhibited together.
