Michael Jeffery is an Australian contemporary artist known for his abstract landscapes. His work is
constructed as a collage of dried acrylic paint skins, later overlaid with signage, brushstrokes and
stencilling.
Jeffery completed a Degree in Visual Arts (Honours) at the University of South Australia in 2005 after
majoring in painting and drawing.
In 2006, he was selected as a finalist in the Wynn Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW and has continued to
show in many solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia.
“My primary interest is the investigation and manipulation of the physical properties of acrylic paints. One of the main processes I have developed has been based around the production and applications of paint skins (dried sheets of paint, originally discovered by my painting teacher and artist Paul Hoban). The construction and composition of my work is inherently an intuitive procedure and intended to be a creative and spiritual exercise.”
