Sasha Hill’s body of work is a direct expression and transmission of the cultural potency of Country. Thousands of years of history is embedded in the works, articulating the intergenerational nature of her cultural identity. The work, placed in a Western exhibition space, allows the audience entry into a tiny slice of Sasha’s inherited spiritual and ecological worldviews, centred in and emanating from Country, passed down to her by the matriarchs in her family. Sasha’s cultural role as artist and matriarch, seen through the action of placing paint on canvas to re-tell ancient stories, activates her responsibilities to pass on her inherited systems of living and being.
