Still Point showcases the photographs of one of Australia’s best documentary photographers, Robert McFarlane. The exhibition features images from the 1950s to the 1990s and includes images from the archive that were never intended for publication. Known for his iconic portraits and natural affinity for light, this exhibition explores how McFarlane’s images have a stillness and depth not always noticed as he takes us into intriguing visual spaces and encourages us to think about the world we inhabit. McFarlane talks about photography as ‘a moment of interchange between the ordinary and the extraordinary’.

This exhibition will show just how he captures the extraordinary in his images, from the famous and well known to the everyday moments. The images encourage you to look deeper, finding your way through the layers and exploring the many points of stillness within. McFarlane has written extended captions for the images, inviting viewers into the scene he witnessed and captured, giving insight into the personality behind the image and providing a glimpse into his practice.
